    Dear FPSU members,

Eric Kowalewski here. The following is my observation of what it’s like to serve on a committee in the schools. Specifically the sex Ed committee. I got on the committee because I expressed to Matt Cairy a desire to want to help. I was tired of the way my heart was quick to complain about everything and not do anything. I feel like God was using the cheating in the 2020 election to wake me up, get me off my butt and start serving. I received an email with the committee meeting agenda. I shared that link with many FPSU members. The first thing I noticed was that most of the people on the committee are school board employees or students. Seemed fishy. I was told by Matt that the biggest problem in the school district was apathy. Nobody wants to get involved! After reading this I pray that many of you also get involved. Anyway, anyone that knows me knows that I’m pretty bold. Nothing or no one intimidates me. Expect, of course, God Almighty. I was able to say everything on my heart with no criticism. In fact I believe I did most of the talking during the meeting. Oops. Now, there were a couple of opposition folks in the room whose heads were starting to spin, but God wanted me to speak so I did. I felt completely comfortable and at peace. I felt like I was heard and I know you will be too. I explained to them that I wasn’t familiar with this politically correct stuff. I was welcomed! Another thing that I noticed is that there were people in the room that weren’t on the list so I asked my daughter Amelia to come in. Everybody is welcome to these things! Total transparency. Another observation I made is that it takes a lot of work to put these things on. There is a lot of scheduling, printing, contacting, research, knowing the law and many other things that need to take place for a school district committee meeting. Melanie is our district curriculum director. She did all this work and a great job. Our little town of Freeland looks like a class act partially because of her. I give credit where credit is due.

The point of the meeting is to recommend items for the school board to vote on based on the agenda. Now from a Bible/Christian perspective I didn’t see anything that was against God. I was actually pretty happy with the materials. Michelle Miller and Mrs. Huckabee do a really good job teaching our kids. I looked and saw absolutely no radical-left agenda in the materials. And you know I was looking with a fine tooth comb. I was actually waiting and looking for a fight. In fact, one of the videos actually says that “gender is determined at birth and you cannot change it”. That is pretty consistent with the Bible. Also, the state of Michigan suggests to the community that we push abstinence in our sexual education programs. That’s pretty cool. Here’s a direct quote:

    (7) and section 1507b, the instruction described in this subsection shall stress that abstinence from sex is a responsible and effective method of preventing unplanned or out-of-wedlock pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease and is a positive lifestyle for unmarried young people.

They actually imply that pregnancy within wedlock or marriage is a good thing by sort of negating the inverse. Sorry, I’m a computer programmer and logic sort of stands out to me. Anyway, this is very consistent with God‘s plan. The best and most effective way to raise children is within marriage. Now I realize we live in a fallen world and stuff happens. Don’t feel threatened or bad if you’re divorced or whatever. That’s not the point. Jesus loves you, forgives you and makes a way for you no matter what. The point is our state of Michigan got this one right! Isn’t it nice to hear good news every once in a while?

Here’s another fact about the state of Michigan. There are no “laws” regarding sexual education. They were only guidelines. These guidelines are shaped by the local community. Also, you need to know that not only the sexual education guidelines can be shaped by the community, but also every area of curriculum in our schools! I need you. Yes you! Get involved. In fact if that committee today were to recommend to the board that we do not teach anything having to do with sex to our kids then it would be so. I prefer to teach that stuff to my kids. I’m sure you do too. But, there are parents in our district who are bad parents. Let’s just be completely honest. We don’t need a bunch of 12 year olds having sex. For this reason we need a sexual education program. But, we can’t let the exception be the rule. The goal is to beat the schools to the sex talk with your kids. God’s plan is that the parents teach their children.

After the meeting I was able to talk to Matt for about 15 minutes. I know he is a bit of a politician, but I looked him in the eye and I believe I saw his heart. God said his word will not return void. Matt likes the fact that people want to get involved. He knows he needs our help. Do I think he’s a stinker sometimes? Yes, of course. I think the same about me too. He is going to be getting me a list of all of the committees. If anybody wants to get involved here is my phone number. 989-239-0446. You can give my number to anyone. I am a firm believer that people need to meet face-to-face. I try to meet with 3 to 5 people in the district per week. I would encourage you all to do the same. They tried to separate the world with a virus. They tried to lock us in our homes. They tried to mask us and remove our identities. God had other plans. He uses all things for good for those who love Him. The meeting was about an hour and it took me another hour or so to put this email together. Will you give me and my kids the same amount of your time? Will you be one of the things He uses for good?
